Living in Bondage

Living in Bondage succeeded in many things. Most of all, it succeeded in negatively changing the original narrative of the typical successful Igbo man in Nigeria. Today, the narrative of the Igbo man is that of a desperate, over ambitious, greedy savage who has no qualms of conscience killing his wife, mother, children, siblings and loved ones for money.

This has been the popular narrative perpetuated by Nollywood movies and about 24years later, the Igbo man at the brink of breaking free will be forced to live in bondage because Mr. Ramsey Noah made a film that defines the Igbo man as heartless enough to murder his little daughter in cold blood for money. Ramsey, Otolo gbabukwegi dia! What an opening scene.

I had hoped a professional like you would be sensitive to such dangerous, dehumanizing and repugnant cultural narrative and would expertly craft the story in ways that will not demonize the tribe that is largely responsible for your success today. Alas your quality on screen may not permeate to such elite spheres of cultural reasoning.
I am mostly ashamed of your stellar cast of“House Niggas” you commandeered to collectivelly piss on the reputation of their own tribe. Because of your film, every non-Igbo person seeing I and my beautiful 3 yr old daughter will be reminded of the possibility that the girl might fall by my cutlass for money rituals.

Because of your film, if my son decides to marry a non-Igbo lady my in-laws will express genuine concern over their daughter’s safety. You have reinforced a false concept and re-vitalised a grossly wrong narrative.
Look at how you openly and brazenly attached a particular tribe to the occult and rituals but all the other characters in The Sixth were tribe Neutral. Richard Williams no tribe. Nnamdi Okeke, Chief Emeka Omego, Chief Mike, Obinna Omego, Chuma why? Why all this hate against the hard-working Igbo tribe that lost everything in the civil war and with only 20 pounds have been able to practically self-help themselves to become the world most industrious tribe.

Yes we are special. We have the right to grow from 5437 Naira in the bank to hundreds of millions. Yes, it is pure hardwork and smartwork that made the likes of INNOSSSON, TONIMAS, ORANGE DRUGS, UGOFOAM, ABC Transport and many more. Even in our motion picture industry, I dare you to point who Ossy Affason sacrificed. Who did Kene Mkparu or Peace Anyiam Osigwe sacrifice? Who did Chioma Ude, Rita Dominic or Genevieve sacrifice?

The Igbo doesn’t need money rituals. He is special. He can sell Ice to Eskimos, sand to the desert and even scam Hushpuppi. To all the line up of House Niggaz that helped Ramsey perpetuate this madness, I hope you pray to God for your souls. One would have expected that the likes of Kanayo o Kanayo, Bob Manuel Udokwu and Kenneth Okonkwo will be looking for ways to redeem themselves from the mistake they made over 24years ago but no, at this critical point they are still thinking of themselves and their pockets not minding whether or not they are damaging the collective perspective of their tribe.

Lastly, I encourage every hard working Igbo man. Keep opening your shop, shade ya marketi, keep traveling to Malay, Dubai and China and bring in the goods.

You are special
Very special.
More blessings
