Nigerian-born soccer star, John Mary, is about the most prolific striker in the Chinese Super League as he has been named in Whoscored.com’s Chinese Super League Team of the Week for the latest round of matches in the division.

Mary who is eligible to play for Nigeria, was recognized by the football statistics website after netting a brace for Shenzhen as they were held to a 4-4 draw by Wuhan Zall on Saturday afternoon, his second consecutive brace in the league.

In a 4-4-2 formation, the Shenzhen number 12 partnered Hebei China Fortune’s Brazilian star Marcão in attack.

Against Wuhan Zall on match day 27, Mary played six shots which was a joint game-high figure, won a team high aerial duels, won one foul and completed one take-on, and was the top rated player at 8.90.

Born in Nnobi, Rivers State, Mary has represented the Cameroonian U-20 national team in the past but is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Since moving to China in January 2018, the prolific striker has racked up 45 goals in 55 appearances for Meizhou Hakka and Shenzhen, a feat which has seen the Chinese football authorities trying to convince him to change nationalities and play for them.
